Clean Air Plants

In addition to adding greenery, beauty and interior interest, many house plants are also “clean air” plants – they help improve indoor air quality be removing impurities from the air. Some plants, such as spider plants, pothos, and philodendron, have been found to be effective in removing formaldehyde. Others, such as chrysanthemums and gerbera daisies, have been found to be efficient at removing benzene, a known carcinogen.

In general, healthy, vigorous plants can filter more indoor pollutants than weaker or smaller plants; but no number of house plants can do much to filter out dust particles or cigarette smoke.
